Last night my kids and I spent the evening baking and decorating cupcakes, making heart shaped brownies and pink jell-o jigglers. My kids were so excited for their day today. All three of them are still in grade school. Still in those magical days were you get to spend the day decked out in red ponytail ribbons and bring heart shaped treats with pink and red sprinkles for everyone to share. They were all having Valentine’s Day parties at school and they just couldn’t wait to get there! As I tucked them into bed last night I couldn’t help but question why we don’t still do those things as adults. Okay, maybe minus the pink pigtails. I remember the anticipation of reading all those little notes and seeing what treats were given out. I think I still have some of the V-Day card holders I made as a kid. Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating the day with my Hubby. But I miss the sweet excitement of handing out goodies to all my friends.
So I decided to take the day back. I know today is not officially Valentine’s Day, but hey, why not start early? I went to the store and put together little heart shaped treats for my girlfriends. Then after I dropped the kids off at school with their bounties, I went and made some deliveries of my own. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!! I dropped them in mailboxes and pinned then to front doors or left them in places I knew they would see. Now as my day goes by, I can’t help but smile as I think of them. I may not be there to see them find those little notes, but I know when they find them they will smile and know I was thinking of them today.
So I think I will start my own V-Day tradition. This was just too much fun to not do again next year! Hope you have a wonderful, hug filled day!
