Pieces of me 2012 – Week 1

Hello again! Only 1 week since my last post? Shocking to be sure I wanted to share a project that I did last year and have decided to continue on with during 2012. At the end of 2010 I came across another photographer that had done a Project 365. The idea was to take and post a picture every day of the year. I had to do it! What could be so hard about taking 1 picture a day? Cake, right?! Oh my, did I learn to eat those words. What I learned was that it is hard. I completed my first year by the grace of God indeed. Somewhere around October I was So. Ready. To. Be.DONE. However, I am usually pretty big about finishing what I start. So I kept going. Finished out the year pretty much swearing I would never do it again!

Well that lasted about 2 hours. I realized how much taking a single picture, every day, rain or shine, good or craptastic kind of day, well, it changed me. I made me see the beauty in something. Everyday. It also became a kind of discipline, like working out or running. The thought of not doing it made me a little sad. So I decided to jump back in and do it again this year, with a few changes. I most likely will take the pictures every day but will aim for posting them at least once per week. That way I can keep my sanity in check! At least what is left of it So here are the pictures from Week 1 of Pieces of Me 2012!

Ahhhh…summer. So ironic to be posting this as we near the middle of September. We had a lovely week soaking in the sun, playing on the beach and enjoying some down time together as a family. Here are just a quick few from our Mexico Vacation 2011.

This trip was a little bit different for me. I very much wanted to be present for my kids, so I left my camera behind for most of the time we were there. It was a wonderful time and we played our hearts out. Looking forward to going back again next year!

Oh how I loved shooting with this family! Just a little bit of love and laughter going on here This is actually one of Sarah’s teachers and his lovely family. This was a fun way to say thank you to them for all the hours they pour into teaching and all they have done for my kids. So thank you, Adam and Missy! It was such a pleasure to spend this time with you both. I loved getting to know you outside of the classroom. Have a wonderful summer and see you next year!

This is how the kids interpreted “Go cuddle with your Mom and Dad!” Ha! SO cute!

Hmmmm, I think Dad must be a superhero.

I love shooting Maternity and newborn sessions! There is just something so beautiful about pregnancy to me. Especially with a Mama to be like Kerri. It was so fun to take Kerri’s pictures because she is so comfortable in her Baby Belly skin. Beautiful natural lighting and a sweet soon to be Big Brother made for a very fun session. Enjoy a few favorites from our time together. Cannot wait to meet little Samuel when he makes his arrival!

The Gift of…Yumminess!

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a lovely time browsing for a trinket or two last week. Today I wanted to share with you two of my favorite local establishments to shop. Both are fairly new business here in Phoenix, both serve treats and are great places to pick up a little something special for just about anyone on your list!

The first I would consider my favorite “Candy” Store. Although they don’t really sell candy. They sell Teas. Hundreds of loose leaf, delicious smelling, wonderful tasting Teas. Take a look inside Fleur de Teas…

Cozy welcoming tables and chairs, holiday decorations, Tea and treat samples…I just love this place! Rows and rows of exotic, soothing, yummy Teas. Under every bag is a little jar with a small amount of tea so you can see, touch and smell before you buy. How clever is that?!

Not to mention all the fun Tea related accessories you can buy from mugs to diffusers, hand poured Candles and even a line of luxury Bath products that smell heavenly!

And to top it all of, the owner Holly, is one of the nicest most knowledgeable people you could meet. She will gladly answer any questions and tell you all you want to know about a particular tea, or suggest one to your liking. My favorites are White Cloud, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Creme Brulle. So stop on by and buy some Tea or a Gift basket! Fleur de Teas is located at 5812 N 16th St. in Phoenix AZ. They are on the Southwest corner of 16th Street & Bethany Home Rd between the Phoenix City Grille & Salon Kismet. Find them online and like them on Facebook, too!

Continuing on our tour of Yumminess…do you know about Smeeks?? If you don’t, you should! Smeeks is a darling little one stop shop for all things sweet. I jokingly refer to Fleur de Teas as my favorite “candy store”, but Smeeks is my kids favorite, hands down!! I know they are dreaming of one or two of these treats in their stockings this year…

Smeeks also sells a nice assortment of sugar free and vegan candy as well as fun retro candy and candy from Asia and Canada. Besides the treats, you can pick up a fun gifts for all ages. They have some pretty unique items you won’t find any where else, guaranteed to put a huge smile on the face of the recipient. Plus, gotta love the little gnome!

So come, be a kid in a candy store, for real Indulge your sweet tooth and discover one of Phoenix’s best kept secrets. Smeeks is located at 14 W. Camelback Road in Phoenix, AZ. You will love them in person but you can also Like them on Facebook!!

Alas, our treat fest is over for the day. Just in time to head out and do some shopping for stocking stuffers! Hmmm, three guesses where you will be able to find me this weekend…

Paying it Forward…win a Complete Portrait Session! {Phoenix Lifestyle and Family Photography}

For those of you who follow my blog at all, you might remember that I did a Portrait Give away for a High School Senior last year. I enjoyed it so much I decided to make it a part of my Holiday traditions. But this year I wanted to do it a little bit differently. In this season of giving and in this year when so many people are hurting financially, I feel so fortunate to have a job I love and that lets me pay the bills by using my creativity. I know that hiring a professional Photographer is a huge investment and it is not in every ones reach to do so. I am so grateful to all of you who have included me as a part of your memories this year!

I would love to pay the blessings forward by gifting a complete Portrait Session including all High Resolution Images on a disk. There are no limitations this year on who can win….Nominate a family, a new or soon to be mom, or a High School Senior. Husbands, think your wife is amazing and know she has always wanted portraits done? Do you have the most amazing Mom/Dad/Best friend whom you want to give the gift of memories? Tell me all about it! What I loved last year was reading about the teens whom you love and are proud of. I am so looking forward to reading your stories this year!

The winner must live here in the Phoenix metro area. Portrait session will take place between Feb 1 – March 30, 2011
The winning entry will receive a 2 hour Portrait Session at a location here in the Phoenix metro area and the entire disc of all the final, edited images (usually 30-35 per session). There is no obligation to purchase anything! Wahoo!

The Who:
Nominate someone in your life and email me as to why he/she is so wonderful and deserving of a free session. (and remember, you can nominate yourself!)
I must receive all emailed entries by Midnight PST Friday, December 10, 2010. The Winner will be announced by Noon PST here on this blog and on my Facebook page on Monday, December 13th….just in time to make this a great Holiday Gift!

Also include the name of the person you are nominating, how you know them, and why they are so deserving. If you want to include a small picture of the person you are nominating you may but it is not required! The winning entry will be emailed to make arrangements for contacting the winner. Emails MUST be received before the deadline. Entries received after Midnight on Friday 12/10/10 will not be considered. Winning person(s) must either live here in the Phoenix metro area or be able to get here and session must be completed in February or March of 2011. Dates will be scheduled according to photographers availability during those months.

Happy, Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This has been a super busy week but I did not want to let it end without posting a few of my favorites from this very sweet session. This is the third year in a row I have had the privilege of doing holiday pictures for Sarah and her sweet little guy, Jack. It is so much fun to see the changes in this super fun, super sweet little boy. Last year we ran like crazy. This year we threw rocks into the ponds, looked for ducks and just explored.
