Pieces of me 2012 – Week 1

Hello again! Only 1 week since my last post? Shocking to be sure I wanted to share a project that I did last year and have decided to continue on with during 2012. At the end of 2010 I came across another photographer that had done a Project 365. The idea was to take and post a picture every day of the year. I had to do it! What could be so hard about taking 1 picture a day? Cake, right?! Oh my, did I learn to eat those words. What I learned was that it is hard. I completed my first year by the grace of God indeed. Somewhere around October I was So. Ready. To. Be.DONE. However, I am usually pretty big about finishing what I start. So I kept going. Finished out the year pretty much swearing I would never do it again!

Well that lasted about 2 hours. I realized how much taking a single picture, every day, rain or shine, good or craptastic kind of day, well, it changed me. I made me see the beauty in something. Everyday. It also became a kind of discipline, like working out or running. The thought of not doing it made me a little sad. So I decided to jump back in and do it again this year, with a few changes. I most likely will take the pictures every day but will aim for posting them at least once per week. That way I can keep my sanity in check! At least what is left of it So here are the pictures from Week 1 of Pieces of Me 2012!

Ahhhh…summer. So ironic to be posting this as we near the middle of September. We had a lovely week soaking in the sun, playing on the beach and enjoying some down time together as a family. Here are just a quick few from our Mexico Vacation 2011.

This trip was a little bit different for me. I very much wanted to be present for my kids, so I left my camera behind for most of the time we were there. It was a wonderful time and we played our hearts out. Looking forward to going back again next year!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Yesterday we spent the day Bowling, swimming, eating and enjoying the day with wonderful friends. At the end of the day, we pilled into our car, headed to a Top Secret location in our ‘hood and watched the Fireworks. I love fireworks…they always make me feel like a little kid. I ooooh and aaaaahhhh right along with my littles, marveling over the pretty colors and bright lights!

This year I brought my camera along and had some fun capturing the light show. This is the first year I have tried to Photograph fireworks and I had so much fun playing with the settings and seeing what effects I could come up with. Here are a few of my favorites from the evening!

Hope everyone had a safe, fun filled day celebrating the amazing Freedom we have here in the U.S.! A huge thank you to all our troops who help keep it that way

Oh how I loved shooting with this family! Just a little bit of love and laughter going on here This is actually one of Sarah’s teachers and his lovely family. This was a fun way to say thank you to them for all the hours they pour into teaching and all they have done for my kids. So thank you, Adam and Missy! It was such a pleasure to spend this time with you both. I loved getting to know you outside of the classroom. Have a wonderful summer and see you next year!

This is how the kids interpreted “Go cuddle with your Mom and Dad!” Ha! SO cute!

Hmmmm, I think Dad must be a superhero.

I love High School Senior sessions. I love hearing the dreams and passion for What Is Coming Next. I had a chance to shoot Stephanie’s High School Senior portraits last weekend. Can you say G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S?! Everything about this session was great….the weather, reconnecting with a fun family and a beautiful young lady with a great attitude and a wardrobe to boot! Okay, it is way past noon and I am late getting this posted! I have been knocked out with a cold today (Oh, the irony!) but I wanted to let you know who the winner is before the day got away. Meghan {Phoenix High School Senior Portrait Photographer}

I first met Meghan up at Camp last summer. She was involved in the Program team and helped put on dramas and games and so much more for all the kids up there. I was really touched by how she shared her heart and was so willing to be open and vulnerable. Fast forward to past fall. About a week after I ran the High School giveaway contest I received an email from someone I really admire and respect telling me all about Meghan. I couldn’t resist adding in one more Give-away session and had a complete blast spending time with her! Meghan is fun and spirited and so beautiful to boot. So here she is…Enjoy!

Jansen {Phoenix High School Senior Portrait Photography}

Saturday afternoon I got to hang out with Jansen and his mom, Chris. Chris is one of my favorite women on the planet. She is amazingly funny and so sweet! I was beyond thrilled when she asked me to do Jansen’s Senior Portraits. Chris clued me in to the fact that Jansen loves playing his guitar and is heading off to college to study Architecture. With the combination of those two in mind, I had the perfect spot to shoot! We could not have asked for a more gorgeous day. Jansen did amazing. We laughed and chatted and he was a natural in front of the camera! Thank you, thank you for letting me be a part of this day with you! I so enjoyed our time together. Not to mention a certain very cool chair…in the back of a truck….that wasn’t exactly ours….hypothetically of course!! Enjoy your sneak peak! Lot’s more to come
